The expiration date is the same as my wife's working visa.

At any rate, the trip to Macau was fun and inexpensive ... which means I obviously didn't visit the casinos!
I take it you applied as if you were not in the country then? Not too familar with the applications, but I suspect there must be one that is change of status and one for coming to the country?

briefly for employment visa... they'll send something to the correspondence address eg.your sponsor or your friend in hk...
you then attach it to your passport if you're already in HK

is that accurate?

we got married after the application was submitted. we were engaged already and since HK does not recognise de facto we thought getting married immediately was our best option.
im not sure how this will effect his dependant application, being that my application didnt say anything about me being married. im confident my salary package is adequate.

speaking of which, i JUST had mine approved...! i dont know any finer details yet but i think i'll be there in the next week or two. HKChigger - im going to take you up on your advice re the dependant visa, thank you so much.

Yes, that's how we did it, using our address in the U.S. as my address. It may not have been the best way to do it, but it worked. I didn't even think about applying to change status.

ETA: We didn't realize that we could have applied for my dependant visa at the same my wife applied for her work visa until she had already applied, or we would have done that.

Dependant? Only requirement is you are a dependant (child or spouse typically) of your sponsor who is on Employment visa/Study Visa (Dependant cannot work) or some other visas. Sponsor can also be a PR who you are married to/is your mother/father or a few other situations.

Money doesn't matter

True, but the application for a dependant visa does request evidence of the financial standing of the sponsor and his/her ability to support the dependant. I've never seen any numbers for a threshold though - I guess anything above average household income (HK$20K-ish) would be fine.
