Mexican Food

Hi all

I have a friend who has been in China since last summer visiting Hong Kong this weekend, he is from Texas and has a particular passion for Mexican food.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Agave is the best that I have tried but I've not been to the place in TST owned by the Wooloomooloo group. Can't remember the name.

Don't keep your hopes too high. This is one area where HK is seriously lacking.

a few options

Coyote - wan chai - has excellent chili as well as nachos. both include some chorizo for a somewhat different spin.

Caramba - SoHo - has a pretty decent lunch buffet with fajitas, etc.

Don Juans - a new place in TST East has all the typical favorites (enchilladas, tacos, burritos, etc.)

May I have the address of Don Juans? Since they have all the typical favourites i just want to check it out if they have (cholupa)? forgot the exact spelling, i had it in Tacobell in the state and was told that only they have it It's something like soft taco but the bread is thick, a little bit craspy and soft don't know how to describe, anyway is delicious, i miss it a lot

Has your Texas friend tried the Mexican food here yet?

I'm from California... and A LOT of us exchange students from Cali have been missing Mexican food since we got here. You'd think with all the street hawkers that it'd be easy to put together a small taco stand... same conditions anyhow..

So far I've only tried one Mexican place... it was in Central.. pretty nice and upscale place. The food was pretty decent and looked nice, but I just want some good cheap greasy tacos. It doesn't need to be fancy and it actually shouldn't cost over 100 bucks. Also the Philipino guys pretending to be a Mariachi band, while funny, just didn't seem right.

Anyone know of or found any of the cheap, greasy places?

The only place even close is Taco Loco but it is NOT anything like you will be used to.

It is the ultimate pig out food but there really is nothing here.

Talking Taco's

I'm also from the US and spent some time in Texas as well. Although the Tex-Mex we get in Texas is really not the same as Mexican food from Mexico it can be really excellent. Personally I think that Taco Loco is the best Tex-Mex kinda stuff around. It's right off the Mid-levels escalator. Just go up looking right and you'll find it. Give it a try. The burrito I had was WAY better than the other suggestion I got from geo which was the food court at 360 where I got a really weird Chinese version of a burrito!! Ha Ha.
