Learning to Surf

Hi,

I've wanted to learn to surf for a while (love the sea). Does anyone know people I can get in touch with to learn how to surf?

You can go to Shek'O, Big Wave Beach, there are many surfers there.

Cool Surfing

I tried to learn once in the US and failed terribly. I even bought a custom made board and all the gear and then never learned at all. I would be up for trying it again though. When it gets hot this summer I'm in.

So one just turns up at big wave bay or shek o and hopes?

Does anyone offer lessons there?

I'm quite keen to start soon as I can survive HK water at this time of the year!

Shek'O is a good place to learn because they lease long boards which are perfect for beginners and waves tend to be long and not too strong. Plus there's no current. You could just learn by watching the other surfers and doing what they do, and ask them for pointers.

Check out these guys. Their site doesn't mention lessons for regular surfing, but I'm sure they'd know someone.

I'm looking for surfing lessons myself and wonder if you had any luck on finding a coach somewhere? I tried with X-Games (http://www.xgamehk.com/cgi-bin/happenings.pl) but I need someone to learn with me to get a group lesson going. Any thoughts?

Also needed - tennis practice partner for weedays night.

I went surfing the first time last year and can't wait to get back out. Heard about Shek o but haven't been yet ... a class makes sense in the beginning, but then it's all about trying. If you get a group together let me know ...

Surfing lessons

China Coast Surf School, www.chinacoastsurf.net, offers lessons at Big Wave Bay and does day trips to Tai Long Wan.
