Advice--do you think my husband is too old to get a job

here's my husband's backgroud: qualified lawyer in Australia for more than 30 years ( that means he is old enough to retire...however he lost more than half of my $$$ in previous his divroce settlement so he has no choice but to work ), all his life practises immigration, family, some third party, conveyancing, commerical lease contract stuffs. ( not that sought-after in HK ). He will be moving to HK in April 2007 to join me ( HK PR ) and I will get him a dependent visa. My husband wishes to take up some works in Hk instead of staying at home. he is about to finish his Tesol course. Do you guys think he has a real chance in securing somethings in English teaching?? He seems to be very upset when I told him he is very close to unemployable because of his age.

With his background I'd go for teaching business english, Has he thought about doing that? The guys that do it are generally older than your typical tefl/tesol teachers who are usually in their twenties.

ummm how old is he exactly? at a guess he's 55ish?

right guess. however with zero experience i think he is going to have a hard time in finding english teaching job. maybe i am a bit too negative. BTW where can he find ads for teaching positions? ( apart from classified post) ..many thanks in advance

he shouldn't have any problem finding work teaching english, if he doesn't need to be sponsored for a working visa (if he has a dependent visa, then he'll do great!)

it might take him a while though to secure a job, but with his experience "in the field" he'll do all right!

Find a member who hangs out at the China Club or FCC and get them to take your husband there -- thats where dozens and dozens of Central solicitors and barristers hang out and laugh about their clients.

I'm sure someone can put 30 years experience to good use.

(Having said that .. if he did not become partner / managing associate in those 30 years.. then the work hours might just be too mad at the lower levels).
