Overseas agents asking for passport number As per the title really. A malaysian based recruitment agency obtained my details via monster and asked me if I was interested in a role working for a very large 'client' of theirs in HK, What I find strange is that they want my passport number etc along with my c.v. Of course I'm loathe to give this to them, Is this the norm? I checked out the agencies website and it does appear to be littered with spelling mistakes as well. Am I better off staying well clear? The other thing is that my C.V is already on monster and they know I'm already in HK thus why do they need to know my passport number and whether I'm happy to relocate to HK.

I don't see really what they could do with it, but I'm not sure I'd waste my time with a company that generally sounds a bit flaky.

No legit head hunter should be asking for a passport number. I can understand that they might want you to bring your passport along, to verify your identity / visa status during a screening interview.. but asking for a passport / ID card number over email does not serve any purpose. I suspect it is a low level scam of some sort .. or junk mail that they sent to everyone.
