| Monthly rental (March 2007) in Kowloon Hello, I am looking to rent a monthly furnished appartment in Kowloon for the Month of March 2007. I will consider anywhere but areas around mong kok, ho man tin, prince edward, etc would be nice). My other option is a monthly hotel package. Previousy, I spent a few years living in HK and would see many advertisements on banners outside hotels for monthly package deals but I can/could never find the same information on the internet. Does anybody know of any such deals or a website where these deals get offered? My problem is that I am on a tight budget and didn't really want to spend more than $6000 to $8000 hk for the month. I am flexible on location because I am just visiting old friends and doing a bit of shopping but would prefer to stick to the kowloon side because thats where most of them live (the friends and the shops!!) Thanks UKMAT |

It also depend on how badly you want a placed to be 'serviced'. If all you need is a maid to clean your place periodically, then you can get something very very close to major MTR stations. If you are interested, I can point you to couple places I have looked at (but you will have to check w/ the real estate agents there yourself). 6k to 8k is quite low for serviced apartments. I would suggest going to some location that you like and find local real estate agent. Areas that are very convenient: Jordan, TST, Yau Ma tei, Mong Kok. The closer you are to tourist area (TST), the nicer and more expensive the place can get. Check out the site gohome.com.hk also it has information about each area on rental properties. Beware some of their entries may be completely out of date. |

| I know of a place in Sai Yeung Choi Street South that is nice for a short stay if you want to go small. Price around $3500, and fully furnished. But, you haven't mentioned size, what size are you looking for space wise? |

Try in kowloon `to kwa wan` if u dont mind the older style of flats i.e. no lifts. But on the value for money side it is extremely cheap between $1500 - $5000 depending on what size of flat. You will find estate agents within the area who will ask u what u want and take u to view the flats straight away. Usually min contract is 1 year and you need 2 months deposit. On the transport situation is second to none?. There is Kowloon city ferry which is a bus station also a ferry port which goes to north point (hk island). Furthermore you have also the minibuses and taxis which going to kowloon i.e. tst, mongkok very quickly indeed. about 10 min to tst that is. Taxis on the other hand about $25-$30 to get into tst. There is also Hunghom station also close by to fort kcr to the new territories. cheers! |

| Found a great one month deal! Thanks guys for the advice and ideas. I found one place and booked it now. A friend of mine in HK checked it out and apparently its on Canton Road in Kowloon, 4 mins walk from Jordan MTR, its a fairly quiet location and $8800 for a month rental, fully furnished, TV, Kitchen etc, 400sqfeet. I only needed a one month rental so I think its a fair deal. A bit more than I wanted to pay but not a bad size and ok facilities. If anybody is after a short term deal (friends and familiy coming to stay fomr a month etc) then these guys are worth a look. I will be happy to report on how it all works out when I have actually stayed there!! I found them on the net at www. thelodgehk.com. Cheers UKMAT |

| How did you book the room? Don't they need a deposit or something? I see they only accept cash or cheque. |

| Hello, Yes.. they don't seem so flexible about the payment options that was one major difficulty I had. In the end I transferred the money to a friend who lives in HK and she went down to have a look at the place and paid the deposit. They want a one month deposit (which I have now paid) and when I arrive they want me to pay the months rental upfront, which I have no problem with. The return of the deposit is also a bit annoying as it will take two weeks after my departure before they return it. I don't see why it must take so long and will address this with them when I get there. But if they wont budge I still have a local HK bank account (no money just an account!!) and they say they will pay the deposit directly into there for me. I really don't know how I would work out if I could not get someone 'on the ground' to go round and pay it for me. I guess my first worry would be trusting the place was real or not, after that it would be down to bank transfers (they must accept them I think!) I will be happy to write a full review of my experience when it?s all over. On the surface it looks like great value at $8800 for a one month short stay so if it all works out I would be happy to recommend it. UKMAT |
