GPS Map for car

I recently used an iPaq with GPS mapping software which successfully navigated me driving in the car from Sha Tin to my destination in Kwun Tong.

I have decided against buying an iPaq (see other posting on PDA's if you are interested) but would still like to have an in car navigation system.

I have had a quick walk around Wanchai Computer Centre and Golden Arcade in Sham Shui Po but can't find a 'map only' GPS device.

Can anyone recommend something that will allow me to have GPS navigation in the car?

Thanks

I recollect seeing a shop in the WCC selling what looked like GPS-only units. I may be wrong. It is located on the first floor. Up the escalator go ahead to the shop directly in front of you (Master OA), turn left, then it is two-thirds of the way along on the right. In fact, I remember Master OA having some units too.

Looked at these products?

The Garmin Nuvi by the way is one of the best sellers on one of our GPS reviews sites.

Thanks guys.

I went to WCC and I think they had some of those for sale. Nice kit but over 5k so a bit extravegent for HK - there are so few roads!

I picked up one of the stand alone GPS units and some s/ware that apparently will run on my PDA for under $1200

Damn, got home, installed the GPS navigation software and those folks at WCC have pulled a bit of a fast one.

The s/ware they sold me does track GPS and runs on Palm OS. BUT it is designed for hiking in country parks, not for driving round HK as the guy told me it was.

Sly dog... will be back tomorrow.

Does anyone know of any proper in car navigation s/ware that runs on the palm o/s?

I'm using Mapking v.10 for the Palm / Winmobile. But I think the latest one is v.12. I have maps for HK and a bunch of other Asian countries and it's used for driving as well.

Your 2 main options with a HK map are TomTom or Mapking.

I'm using Mapking 3D V.7 on a Windows Pocket PC, linked to a bluetooth GPS receiver (Holux GPSlim 236 - $780).

Works well driving around HK and quickly re-routes when you get lost or take a detour.

Out of interest, what software did the guy give you?

Does any one know where I can by a Tom Tom in HK? I haven't seen any and even if it's not much use here it'll be useful elsewhere...
Thanks.
