Do I need a converter for my external drive?

Hi everyone. I am moving to Hong Kong soon and I have a question about regarding converters. I saved all my files on my computer to a Maxtor external hard drive (200gb) and plan to transfer them to a new computer when I get one in HK. I know I need to get a converter because there are 2 pongs on the plug where in HK they use 3. My question is what kind of converter do I need? All I know is the power adapter that comes with the drive says 100-240V~50/60Hz 1.2A.

Thank you for your help!

If what you have is a 2-pin plug and you intend to stay in HK then I would cut it off and fit a HK/UK 3-pin. Less chance of a short circuit from a bad connection between bad fitting adapters and you get a fuse to boot.

Actually, don't most the power adaptors for this sort of thing come with a removable power cord? You can just buy the corresponding cord in HK. Most of these power adaptors use a basic 2 pin connection the same as used in many DVD/VCR/Hi-fi system power cords. The replacement cord won't set you back much...

Thanks for all your response. You are right, dropdedfwed, the drive does come with a removable cord. I hadn't even thought of getting the corresponding cord instead of an adapter. I think I will get the cord instead of the adapter since there is a chance the adapter could screw up my drive. Thanks again for all your help!
