Hmm, I take it back, I don't think there is a minimum top up requirement. Will look into it further and report back.

As for discobay, I hope you don't do stand up ;-p

Ha ha ha! It will be interesting to see when the other big UK networks will cut their roaming charges.

They already have. Vodafone have something called "Passport" and o2 have something in the pipeline.

Basically they are trying to head off the European Commission investigation. I hope the networks don't get fined though, because it will be the customer who will actually end up paying in the end.

Looked at the PAYG option, however I would have to buy a phone. Cheapest decent one is about £80. Now if I go down the contract route (with the 12 month line rental redemption offers) I would get a decent phone and free line rental for a year (plus decent call / text credit to call back to the UK).

I would go contract. You can get some good phone deals in the UK.

The 3 roaming will be reciprocal and will be extended to 3 HK users shortly covering the same countries. Handy for travelling back to UK. I can't see any point in getting a UK 3 sim card for use in HK as UK mobile calls are expensive anyway. Still cheaper for someone in UK to sign up with a call provider like 18866 and pay 2p per minute to call HK mobile / landlines.

Yes, but people in the UK will be able to call your Three UK phone at their ongoing rates, and now most mobile phone contracts include inclusive any network minutes.
