I'm an expat living in The Philippines. I just found out that my husband's company wants us to relocate to Hong Kong by Feb 15. We employ a wonderful helper and would like to bring her with us when we move to Hong Kong. I've read about the direct hire process and have read the requirements on the Hong Kong gov web site. From what I'm gathering it seems that our helper will have to remain in the Philippines while we relocate and if her visa application is approved she can join us then (and it may take 6-8 weeks for that to happen!) As we have young children we'd really prefer that she accompany us right when we move as we will need all the help we can get with settling in.

Has anyone had a similar experience with bring a helper with you to Hong Kong? Is there anyway to expedite the process for her visa? Can we somehow apply for her visa now before we ourselves have moved to Hong Kong and before we have an address there and identity cards?

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. Also if you know of an agency willing to assist with direct hires I'd appreciate the referral. Thank you!
