First date...suggestions?

Hi, does anyone have any suggestions for a romantic first date?

I've met a local girl who seems really great and I want it to be special. Having never been out with any local girls before I'm not entirely sure if they like to go to different places to western girls (I suspect so).

We're both students and I don't know a lot about her yet so maybe somewhere that we could get to know each other better would be good.

The weather is pretty unpredicatable at the moment and not very warm so it would probably have to be indoors...

suggestions very much appreciated!

Here are my ideas.....

1. A day trip going to one of the outlying islands
2. A walk in a park
3. A shopping trip
4. Go on a cruise trip at night
5. Watch the symphony of lights
6. Go to HK Disneyland or Ocean Park
7. Watch a film/movie together
8. Go to Kowloon Walled City
9. Go to Lei Yue Mun
10 See the 10 Thousand Buddhas

Ask her for ideas on where she would like to go on your day/night out together.

wow loopy!

That's quite the list! Either you've been on a lot of dates in HK or you've hosted quite a few...impressive

Tom1985: I think it's great that you're thinking about what she'd want to do as a local, but that doesn't necessarily mean she doesn't do or wouldn't try expat stuff

If there's something you really love in Hong Kong, you should take her to see/experience it because you are bound to be enthusiastic about and, well, girls love genuine enthusiasm (in acceptable amounts). Plus, this is a way for her to get to know who you are which I'm sure she is eager to do to.

There is also this program on TVB Pearl from the Open University and at 12pm on Sunday; they are showing a program called "Hong Kong Treasures" or something like that . You might get some ideas from that.

And another thing is going out to see Pink Dolphins in Hong Kong. Unfortunately I don't know the details. Sorry.

Good luck with your date

Before going for a fancy restaurant you might want to check whether she is a foodie - IME a significant proportion of local girls will eat about one fork full of food and call it dinner, which is a bit of a waste if going somewhere nice (and makes you feel awkward if you want to enjoy a 3/4 course meal).

Also take strong chewing gum to offer her in case she's one of the many "my fluid intake is minimal and I brush my teeth once a week" types.

That is hilarious PDLM.

Tom, a word of advice: culturally the dating timeline is longer(and more tedious, IMO) than what you might be used to so don't expect to hit first base on the first date. You'll be lucky getting a hug.*

*Excludes one night stands and whores, who are people too.

the timeline is longer? who have you been dating?

seriously dude, just take her to mcdonalds and buy her a hamburger! if she is the type that expects you to drop $2000 on a meal at some swanky restaurant, is she really the kind of girl you want anyway?

Cultural barrier is not easy to overcome... My first gf was a Canadian-born Chinese (when I first moved to Canada) and even though she was a very nice, easy-going girl, it still took me a while to get used to everything...

Now that I'm back here I find it almost impossible to date "local" girls.

But hey, best of luck. It's just as important to let her understand you as it is to get to know her. Instead of just making the day/night interesting, how about going places where you two can actually talk?
