shipment cost

Hi everyone!

I am moving to Dubai from hk this month.Quite confused whether to ship all my furniture and white goods or not.
The best quote I got was 30k for the whole container(if I take all my things including the furniture) and 22k for my personal belongings(excluding the furniture).

Can anyone please suggest any cheaper option to take my things as the cost is on me. whatever money I save can be used to buy new furniture. I thought about hkpost but I do have a couple of heavy things like coffee table which I would like to take along.....................please HELP!

thanks in advance.

Hari - I advise you NOT to bring your whitegoods here. Many newer HK apartments have whitegoods (washing machine, fridge etc.) already included in the kitchen, and the landlord will not move them. For older apartments with no whitegoods, the kitchens tend to be very small so the appliances you bring over may not fit. I've had friends from Dubai move over with whitegoods who then had to store & sell them here.

Also, you may want to bring only minimum of furniture. Many HK apartments are very small, so unless you already know the size of your new place, you will probably want to limit the amount you bring. Furniture can be purchased for good prices in HK (or custom-made in Macau).

I agree, the apartments here are far smaller than Dubai and you might not have room for everything. Do you know where you're staying and approximately how much space you have?

$30,000HK doesn't seem that bad for a full container. You mean a 40 footer? I think I paid about that for 1/6th of a container (door to door) to the USA.

If you have a full container and space to spare (you'd be amazed what would fit in there) then furnish your new place in Dubai with cheaper goods you buy here in HK. Have a couch made, some tables, etc.

Don't know much about Dubai furniture, but expect it is expensive.
