In downtown Philly, South St was pretty nice with the bars/coffee shops around. I went to school outside of the city, on the Main Line.. Amazing houses, and was only 20 mins by train into town.

we're from there. it has gotten more expensive in the last few years. whats your situation--single, married, married with kids, married with kids? if in the city is what you mean, it is very happening nowadays and i think much safer in even the somewhat lower rent areas than before. if in the burbs, highly recommend yardley which is an old old village about 20-25 minutes from center city.

thanks! well, i'm just following the boyfriend really. he has found an apartment which looks really swish, edgewater? but apparently at 2323 race street it's just outside the recommended center city zone. I honestly have no idea. What is public transport like, what are the areas to avoid, that kind of info would be so helpful!

I lived in Center City a few years ago...can't remember where Race Street is exactly. I lived on 18th and JFK. Your address is 23rd and Race. I think Race is north end of Centre City but don't know for sure. Most of that area is safe until you get to an area around the train station on 30th Street. I used to take the trolley. Depends on where you need to go. There's also the commuter train to the suburbs. Don't think I've ever taken the city buses though. Are you going to be working? I found grocery shopping to be a pain without a car but most people I knew didn't have a car. There used to be a really nice grocery store near the Children's Museum and I used to drag all my grocery bags from there back to my apartment. Have no idea why I did that! Things could have changed quite a bit. That was about 7 years ago. Let me know if you need more information.
