tax issues: gifts Dear All, Next year I will receive 20,000 euro from my brother in Europe as a gift. The money will be wired into my bank account. Am I supposed to report the money as income and is there a tax free portion? Any replies are greatly appreciated. guylaroche

Its not income . Its a gift and I expect you can show it as such. All income ( if thats what you want to call it ) derived from outside HK is NOT taxable.

Yeah, no gift tax in HK. However, there might be implications in your home country (specially if it is the US..)..
