I got a lot of help for the tai po/sha tin area... now a friend of mine asked me for help and I thought I'd ask here.
Her budget is max 6k per month for a furnished flat, if possible all inc. and not a 'shoe box' . The area is anywhere on the north side of HK Island between Kennedy Town and North Point or Kowloon up to the NT Sha Tin. My comment was 'good luck' as she seems to want the impossible. Anyway, if anybody has a suggestion please post. I've given her some websites, including this one, gohome and a few agents. Thanks a lot.

hmmmm I think it depends what she feels is a shoebox. If she wants a three bedroom flat good luck.

She could find a decent place furnished with a bathroom, bedroom, living room and perhaps a little kitchen area. (not full kitchen) Cost wise she is looking to be under that price if she isn't expecting anything bigger than 300 sq. feet. (Most likely little smaller than that though)

You can easily get a 700 sq feet 2 or 3 bedroom flat on Lamma Island for $6000 ($5000) A smaller 350sq ft flat can be had for less than $3000 - nice enough for 1 person. $500 for unlimited monthly ferry ticket - 25 mins to Central. Have a look at the Lamma website. Beter still come over and have a look at the property agencies / talk to the local expats.

Yes, Lamma, Tai Po, Sai Kung...if your friend would move further up and to the east, that could be possible. I know there is a top floor 2 bedroom apartment with roof, balcony, little water view, still renovating with modernised bathroom and kitchen in Sai Kung old town. You could keep this in mind and may be it can be the last resort for her. Good luck!
