How to invest Tax Savings

Hi All,

Simple question to all you finance geeks. In Hong Kong the tax is paid only at the year end, but I allocate a part of my salary every month for Tax so that I don't get a surprise at year end.
Currently I keep this tax money aside monthly in Fixed Term Deposits but the returns are really pathetic. What other options do I have for investment of this money keep in mind that I can't invest for more than a year.
On the same note any good ideas on index funds? I find a lack of awareness for index fund in Hong Kong.

Cheers,
Ice

its a matter of risk and return right ?
even in banks when there is a certain cash flow (i.e. the tax), the treasury manager will place the money allocated to the cash outlay in a fixed term deposit that match the timing of the cash flow.

if you invest in an index and the index goes down, then how are you going to pay for your tax ?

by withdrawing on his booze fund.

Index funds: All I know is that Hang Seng has very low commission. Since the index funds of all banks should perform equally, you could think about buying one from HS.
