| My wife and I (using her GeoExpat account) currently live in the States (St. Louis) and are preparing for a tranfer to HK as early as Aug of this year. The tranfer offer was a bit unexpected (prob the norm). As such, I had entered into a 36 month automobile lease back in Jan. of this year. Not sure if the company is willing to pick up the costs associated with lease termination. Therefore, we'd like to explore the option of bringing the vehicle with us. A few questions that come to mind: 1. Anyone have a ballpark figure or resource on import/shipping costs? 2. Licensing, registration, insurance and other ancillary fixed costs? 3. Availbility of qualified maintenance personnel? 4. Understand living in HK (like NYC) means not having to own a vehicle per se-does this present a problem in terms of parking or other issues? At the risk of being hammered by those who seem adverse to the practice of capitalism, the auto is an expensive German SUV. Any issues with theft (guessing "No" based on previous sojourn into China and HK) or poor road conditions? Thanks in advance. |

| You cant bring a car from the US to HK. We drive on the "wrong side of the road". German SUV? BMW or Mecedes will most probably be on the hot list of insurance companies. Get your company to absorb the cost of terminating the lease. |
