Dependent Visa

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone could help me out with some info on dependent visas.

I will be moving to Hong Kong next year. I will be applying for an Employment Visa, and would like to bring my partner also.
We are not married, but have been together for 5 years.

Will he be able to get a dependents visa and be able to work? Has anyone else been in this situation? Could you please let me know how you got around this?

The immigration website says you must be married...

Hate to say this, but the answer is 'no'. You have to be married in order to get your partner a dependent visa.

The immigration department is correct. You must be married in order to get a dependant visa.

yep.. I've to agree also with previous posts. For dependent visa you need to be married.

There are only limited options you can do:
1) "Employ" you're partner as domestic helper
2) Your partner stays on Visitor visa. But its only valid for 3 months. But some ppl manage to extend it to even a year, with making a short trip to China or Macau and then come back to HK
3) Get married here

Just to add (since it is not clear from the original post)... only marriages between men and women are recognised in HK, so even if a same-sex couple gets married in a juridisiction that allows such things it won't be recognised here.

That will only work if they come from one of the "tradition" domestic helper countries. Immigration is going to really start questioning someone from the UK for instance on why they would want to come make like $3000 HKD per month when they could easily make more in their home country or teaching English and the list goes on. In other words Immigration is closed minded about these things.
