Hello,
I will be relocating to HK pretty soon and have a question about voltage. Are light fixtures sold at IKEA in Hong Kong for 220V or do they come with 110V and I need to buy a power converter? Thanks!

here it's all 220v. it does not matter for fixtures though, it's the lightbulb that acts as its own transformer...

I am guessing that the OP has electrical items and is coming from a 110v country to HK. Yes ordinary light bulbs are not a problem but flourescent and/or halogen may be. These should be labelled with their required voltage.

Thanks! Is it easy to get a power converter for 110v appliances I have been using in North America (audio, video, kitchen appliances...)?

Yes. Try small electrical shops everywhere around town or head for one of the hard/software computer arcades and buy there. They have them as they need to sell them along with certain computer related items which are set in 110v for the Japanese/Us market.

However, the transformers are large...about half the size of a shoebox. They're not too cheap and I certainly wouldn't want a dozen of them around my home! Think about only using them for items you really want/need to bring and dump the rest of your stuff in US. Buy new kit out here.

We looked for a long time at the converting issue and decided it was better to leave all the 110 in the US and buy new here. Just check your US appliances because some might be world-wide voltage and only require an adapter plug.

Thanks! I have a few things that are 110/220V convertable. Except that, I guess will have to have a huge moving sale. Yep! Good excuse for buying new stuff.
