Hello! Will be gg HK soon so i'll need all the help i can get! I was thinking about getting a tailor-made cheongsam top, one that is modern. I've read the related threads but most of the shops mentioned are really expensive and mostly for weddings?

I wonder if anyone knows where there are many shops close together selling cheongsam tops that are relatively affordable?

You could try Yue Wa on the corner of Nathan and Jordan Roads right by an entrance/exit to Jordan MTR station. They have a huge selection of Chinese clothing.

How long are you staying, after silk cheongsam? The best and cheapest silk is out in Suzhou near Shanghai. You could try over the border in the Shenzen mall. I'm guessing various spots around Kowloon should be available, there are certainly many tailors for mens clothing, try walking through TST without being asked.

Red wedding cheongsam are incredibly expensive (even compared to designer western wedding dresses) due to the gold and silver threaded dragons.
