Giving up

Giving up on finding a job out here in HK, Got messed around on another role with a job working in a legal headhunting firm.

They were interested and wanted to see me etc but I told them I am not going to fly back to HK just for a meeting with a regional partner, I then ask them if they could instead schedule me a meeting with one of the partners in their London office just so we can talk more and to see if we're the right fit for each other etc.

And so it happens that the HK regional director flies into London last week for business and does not 'bother' to contact me at all in anyway shape of form and subsequently I find out that they are at an advanced stage with two other candidates, Why the hell they didn't bother telling me this in the first place rather than waste my time and effort in chasing up this role.

I'm coming back to HK for a short break and to apply for my I.D card and not going to bother looking for a job now as I feel its a total waste of time and effort if companies like this treat their 'potential' employees in this manner then I'm better off out of it and stick to working in London and studying for my personal coaching exams.

I give up I really do, Why do companies treat people this way, Its wholey unprofessional and doesn't do much for their corporate image.

You obviously a) don't need a job particularly, and b) haven't much experience of job-hunting!

17 years experience of working in and applying for global multinationals I'll have you know and never have I been messed around like I did with this role and others in HK.

Yes technically I don't 'need' a job but thats not the point is it?
Its the principle of the thing where the company says 'they're interested and would like you to come aboard' but of course expecting me to fly out to HK at my own expense which of course I refuse to do and would rather speak to a representative from their sister office in London to discuss this role in more detail.

But oh no when the asia pacific regional director happens to be in London this last week they couldn't be bothered to contact me and I subsequently find out from another source that they're now at an advanced stage with two other candidates.

Its all this messing around and time wasting lethargy which I can't stand, Why in HK do they want to take months in finding out who they want and going through the whole recruitment process when other companies can turn things around in weeks?

Many a time for example I have applied for a job on Tuesday, Interviewed on Wednesday and gave references etc upon acceptance of the offer and started on the following Monday, Less than a week turnaround on a role within a global financial company.

Oh and yes I have worked in recruitment for a firm of head hunters previously and I wouldn't of dreamt of treating a potential candidate that way, Its of nobodys benefit to keep a candiate hanging on and stringing them along.

All it does is antagonises the candidate and gives yourself and the client a bad reputation, Treat others how you'd like to be treated and all that.

Well I no longer wish to work solely in I.T so looking for roles in the recruitment industry as either a headhunter or a senior resourcer, Those are the roles I'm being approached for currently.

Well, if you're being approached (and I assume that is not posturing) then why post a whole rant about how unfair the process is?

Chin up my man!

ozipo is on a distinguished road
recommded highly

to avoid libel, i would rather focused on spreading the good name of headhunter/s i encountered. Top of the list I encountered is the professionalism of Mercuri Urval. Going thru it makes me know myself even better. Good luck with those who is still looking for a job.

frankly i'm not sure how sensible it is to get fed up over such things.
watever HH says, take it with a pinch of salt. even though they are employing you, you know their main objective is to fulfill their requirement with the person cheapest that meet their condition.

anyway, on the other hand, if you are interviewing for 3 jobs, unlikely you will tell the potential employer that you are in advance stage with another company right. you would prefer to have 3 offers then decide for yourself which one to take.

Jimbo, maybe your refusal to come to HK for the interview (which was presumptous on their part) forced HR to select from the other candidates who are probably here. The asia regional whatshisname is the one to blame - ok what's the name of this cowboy outfit?
