Procurement/ Supply Chain Opps? Hullo I have posted this before but had no replies...I don't think it was in the right thread...sorry am a newbie to this...here goes... Am looking to locate back to HK in the NY 2007. My field is procurement and I am looking to secure a job in procurement/ sourcing/ supply chain. Anyone out there work in this area and have any market intelligence or views on this field in HK? ..the UK is quite advanced, and Oz has really taken off, but my feel is that its more of a emerging field with large MNCs here....but i think there is lots of potential and with the proximity to china there is alot of good opps for low costing sourcing, BPO and logistics etc....Have heard from some agents but would be interested in hearing those who work in the field here.

Hi, Vallerina The Market for Merchandisers related to Procurement / Marketing is huge in HKG, If you can speak Mandarin you will have a lot of oppertunities to join the trade as HKG has a buying or sales office for most fty's in China. If you are not speaking the langage then you need to be employed by the Retails heads who have buying offices in HKG where they serve purticular markets based on the production plants. M&S, SLU, GAP, VS and a lot more companies have a marketing / procurement office in HKG. Hope this helps ! And all the best.!

Hi I work in the non-merchandise area - IT (hardware, software, services, infrastructure), Supply Chain (ie, trucks, fleet etc), professional services (Marketing, Consulting). The principles of buying and negotiations are the same, but the deals I do are predominantly very contract based and longer term than probably merchandise. Would be keen to move into merch if that is where there are opportunities however do not know whether not having merch experience is an issue. I speak fluent cantonese, can read and (to a lesser degree write), and speak conversational mandarin.

Hi there, I'm new to all this forum stuff but i can say (to coin an english phrase) you are "sorted!", that is a major growing field and there are allot of recruiters and recruitment companies desperate for someone with people with your experience. I'm in recruitment myself (be careful there are allot of small outfits out there after a quick buck so bewary of who you pass your CV to) but not in that field, I can point you in the right direction if you like? Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine!

kinjamin thxs for the encouraging note! i have sent many apps but so far i dont think there is much interest though my research concurs with your points on that it is a hot industry..... re recruiters...well i have had some conversations but generally i dont think they are willing to put me forth unless i am physically back, which i guess is part of the test to come back and see. yes i have noticed that there are all sorts or recruiters in the field advertising for this field of late....if you can point me to some credible ones in the industry that would be great.

Vallerina, Don't you go worrying yourself now! (jeez, I sound like a cowboy!). Fact - You have good experience You have the language skills You are going to an industry that is in high demand and short supply of staff. You need to do a bit of research before going, but better yet, talk to an experienced consultant in this field and get them to do it for you, there are already salary surveys and projections for 2007. As I'm in the area myself, I'll drop you a private message on who it is worthwhile contacting. Since you are back in January, if they are not getting things ready for you to start interviewing as soon as you're off the plane, dump 'em. Also when talking to a recruitment person, ask their knowledge and background of the industry and what sort of clients they work with, if they give you a load of waffle, then you know they are talking crap. Aside from that, just SMILE!

Guys, I truly feel the same as well, but really ahve to be careful with those small medium trading firms when you pick up your job. I am quite a good living case now. Been working in my current company as kind of compliance and sourcing manager but was also put into other job functions such as process improvements and QA inspections. So after a year of hardwork(dozens of overnites!) and finished most of the defined projects but the management start to show the different attitude. After a meeting with the GM who hired me, I found that they will just wanted to hire me to set up everything and then put some fresh grad to work on the system. I am not sure whether this is the trend here but have to get myself to look for new jobs again.
