Lightbulb No dogs allowed in the building!!!help!!!

I just purchased an apartment and even though the agent told me my dog will be allowed in the building,I found out (too late) that no dogs are allowed.I never imagined this can happen! did any of you heard of a similar case? what can I do?
I called the SPCA and they told me I can just put him in a trolley or carry on th back....I am looking for a real solution.Help, anyone?

Do you have it in writing from your agent that dogs are allowed in the building? There's a remote possibility that you might be able to take action against your agent for give you false information but to be able to really get your dog into the building might be a real uphill task.

Gosh that's terrible! I've never purchased a flat here in HK so not sure how it works. Is there a contract which you can pull-out of without too much penalty? I know in USA there used to be an escrow period where it was possible to pull-out (depending on contract details). Alternatively could you afford to rent this place and purchase another one (I realize that's a long-shot)? You may want to take everything you have in writing from the agent to a lawyer and see what they say in terms of real options.

Question

What do you mean you can just "put him in a trolley or carry on the back?" Are they suggesting this is how to transport the pet in 'common areas' of the building?

Is the dog allowed or not allowed to be in your own space which you bought? I know in our building they ask that we carry our pug in the elevators and be catious when in the lobby, but no rules when inside our apt (except if neighbors complain about barking more than twice, dog must go).

Based on your post not sure what your restrictions are? And thus not sure I can make any suggestions...

Thumbs down

Well that's what piss me off about the Property Rules in HK. Not many Buildings are "pet friendly" (especially those new estate) . They ask you to "put it in a torlley" or "carry at your back", means you cannot take him out to walk around the building area. You can have him at your own flat but if he barks and your neighbour complains, that is the end of the story for your doggy....

Well think having a pet at the building is not allowed in practice but then many people love pets now, that is why so many "dodgy doggy bag" in the market these days...

Hi,my laywer said nobody and no rule can forbid me from keeping my dog in my apartment. The problem is in the lobby and the lift.I will have to carry him on me....he is not that small...also,we did not move in yet,the apartment is under renovation-my dog is barking a lot,I am sure the neighbours will complain, what can I do? I can't let my dog go.Where I live now, every apartment has a dog,all are happily barking.

sounds like you might have do a bit of doggy re-training. there are a few professional dog trainers in hong kong... i can find the names if you need them. i'm sure they can help you train your dog not to bark.
i feel for you.

Rules are there for a reason...

I gotta say your first post made it sound like you couldn't have a dog present at all... the fact that you have to carry him in the lobby is frankly understandable to me, even as a pet owner, some people just don't have sense when it comes to keeping their pets (or kids for that matter) under wraps around the general public. Especially seeing as how a noticable percentage of folks are scared 'round dogs here, so holding 'em in the lift seems the courteous thing to do.

If he's a big dog, start lifting weights

As far as the barking, again understand the rule. Would hate for my neighbors to have to put up with barking just cuz it doesn't bother me (though it does) I've been in my place since March and my dog has certainly done plenty of barking, prob daily, and it's possible it can be heard outside the apt, yet no complaints. Guess you can only hope for the same...
