I have a 29" Sony Trinitron TV (CRT-based) which has given many years of service, but which now has an increasingly frequent problem with what appears to be the HT system. My suspicion is that there is simply a big capacitor somewhere which has got too old and if that were replaced the set would be good as new.

I'm on the point of getting myself a big new flatscreen, but it seems such a shame to trash a big piece of kit like this that for the sake of (probably) a HK$50 repair would be back to full working order.

Does anyone know of some person or organisation that would take it away for me, fix it and find it a good home (I'm not looking for any money)?

you could always try the freecycle network in HK. I used to use it in the UK and am pretty sure there is one here in HK as well. It is one of yahoo's mail groups.

place an add for free, people mail you back with an interest and you give it to the person who gets back first or who annoys you the least :-)
