| | | chungking mansion Does anyone know the ins and outs of this venerable institution? I'm told by various people that its a treasure trove for Indian films, cooking ingredients, food etc
I'm looking for some specific guidelines on where I can get the best biryani/dosa etc etc......while on the subject, who knows of the Afghan canteen?

| | | Well Reema, 'the best' might be getting into subjective territory, but ask away as I have been a CK fan since I first came across a sign[on the building facade]proclaiming that the "Freezing Hot and Cold Bottle Co" was located within.
btw The Afgan Canteen is on Lock Road, and has decent enough tandoori and is halal.

Best biryani??, well.....i know from a 'reliable' source that it would have to be the South India Club Mess, and its located in,...D Block (I think). They even serve dosas, too, though the best place for that would be Woodlands on nearby Chatam Road.

| | | Possibly as a response to this thread, HK Magazine in issue 527 dated 18th June 04,have featured CKM as their cover story somewhat confusingly titled "Little Shop of Horrors". Plenty of gory grisly and grimy shots -enough to put you off your curry-almost.
Speaking of curry -check out The Japanese Curry promotion underway @ CitySuper. With a little trepedition I picked up a Vermont curry with 100% Japanese Apples and Honey. Not bad at all, yet it doesnt hold a candle to the stuff dished out by the curry babus @ CKM

Although what really bugs me is the fact they publish such dreary shots of the place and yet, in the article, they (the writers) ultimately come to the conclusion that it's not quite the 'menace' they initially claim it to be!
Negative stereotyping, that's what they're indulging in.
Jeez, what's the POINT of writing the article in the first place!?

| | | HK Magazine #528 25th June 04 Letters section Page 4 has a response to last week's Chung King cover story by one Salsa Singh of Mid Levels. Holy coriander Max this salsa is spicy, no link to this as the HK guys are a bunch of luddites, so get a hard copy. One interesting obeservation by SS is that booze is cheaper at CK then in LKF. hmmmm I wonder why. | |

| | | It's true Yes KK, I did read it and came to the same conclusion. Those guys at HKMag are really overdoing the 'dangerous' angle. It's no surprise that such a reply was given.
LOL, you're right about the booze bit, but hey, who's complaining?
Btw,....Salsa(?) Singh,....is that name for real?
