Firing a part-time helper

I hired a local part-time helper a few months ago. I'm fed up with the arrangement because she constantly calls to reschedule and is usually late. Her cleaning isn't so great either. Foolishly, I neglected to enter into a written contract with her. Are there any regulations to be followed on giving notice/severance?

What I did was, just tell her "sorry, I don't need your service anymore. If I need you, I will call you." Don't forget to take your key back and inform your security guard that this person is no longer working for you.

No contract is needed.

hmm..well i dont kno if there r any formalities needed actually.....cos i dont think they r supposed to b working part time anyways. thats actually (apparently? correct me if im wrong) illegal? but of course tons n tons do part time work....and it works for alot of "employers" too...
but if u dont like the one, im sure u can just say sorry i dont need u anymore..because u dont sign a contract or anythgin for part timers....just like im sure theyre free to say ok im outta here, whenevr they like too (most likely to b the day they get their cheque or the day after!)

The OP did say the helper was a local helper. Makes me suspect they have PR in HK as well as right to abode.

If that is the case part-time work is 100% legal.

I had two local part time helpers before and both I hired through the Methodist organisation (I am not sure the English name but in Cantonese is called Ming Oi)

After I "fired" them, I called the organisation to ask them to get me a new one. I just told them that the helper was not suitable. They were alright with it and didn't ask for anything else.

You don't need a contract with part time helper.
