Wink Laptop repair

There are a couple of laptop repair shops in the WanChai Computer Center. That's the building on the left next to a McDonalds when you go out the Hennessey Road exit of the WanChai MTR station.

Check out "Notebook Technology Co." - shop #235 on the second floor. They have several shelves of used notebooks for sale displayed in their front window.

Do NOT go to Match Power Repair Service Centre"!!!!! They're shop #271 on the same floor. I have a VAIO laptop (out of warranty) that I had repaired there twice. I had to take it back in 3 times to finally get a replacement keyboard that worked more than a week; I found out later on they had charged me more than Sony would have in the first place(!!!); and they mangled my internal power cable during the repair that I later had Sony replace when my laptop wouldn't turn on soon after the repair.

$8000? Sounds like your motherboard is damaged. I had the same problem with a Toshiba Satellite about 8 years ago (spilled a bowl of cereal on it). I suggest you just buy a new machine.

Hi,
Just thought that I would keep this thread current.
Recently my Acer laptop broke 2 months out of warranty! A windows file was apparently missing or corrupt. I managed to reformat the hard drive but windows would not reinstall.
I took it to Universal Computer Company on the 2nd floor of Wanchai computer centre. The guys seemed ok and said that they would charge $80 to look at the machine and $300 if they could reinstall windows.
After a few days I get a call to say that they think it is the cd rom drive so they will try another. A few days later no that is fine and they think it is a 'chip that is damaged on the motherboard'. Don't quite know what this means or whether they just don't know in English. Get a bit worried get it back and take it to Acer in Quarry Bay.
Acer are very good and it turns out it was the Ram that was damaged and needed replacing - total cost $500 for inspection and labour and $750 for Ram (expensive i know). But glad my laptop is now working for $1250 (+ the $80 i paid to the guys at UCC).
My advice stick to the dealer service centre if you can. At least if anything goes wrong it is sorted properly. At Wanchai there were stacks of computers all piled on top of each other, people eating around the machines and they accidentally nearly gave me back the wrong charger. Don't think that I will risk it again!

chevalier are the distributors of toshiba laptops, and they have a repair center in kowloon tong. it costs 300 for inspection non refundable and takes 14 days to inspect).

if the machine is salvageable, then you have to fork out another 400 hk for labor plus cost of the parts.

give it a try

"kowloon tong" ????

More like Kowloon BAY !! - about ~10 minute walk from MTR.

And they, like all the other distributors, plunder your wallet. "Another fat fish to fry". <wry smile>

Sony Vaio TZ screen broken

Hi,

My Vaio TZ has a brocken LCD screen...

Does anybody know a Vaio specialist to get it fixed ?

And in the meantime I would like them to upgrade my HD to an SSD 32 G or 64 g if already available...

Thanks a lot in advance !

Max
