I just finished my MBA at HKUST and I have to say my expectations were exceeded. Overall teaching quality is very high. Better than in my undergrad courses which I did in Switzerland. More than 50% of the Profs are from overseas and all the local profs have their PHD's from top foreign schools. The course is very international and completely different from the traditional chinese teaching methods.

For the rankings check out either the Financial Times:
http://rankings.ft.com/rankings/mba/rankings.html

or the Economist:

The chinese education system highly relies on learning things by heart - not on understanding and interpreting problems. This is what I found in most local MBAs. The only program that is actually an eMBA is the one from Western Ontario http://www.ivey.com.hk/about_ivey.html. The classes highly rely on interaction (about 50% of the grading) and is mainly case study based (new cases, asian focused, not old recycled issues). The modules are also not very fincance biased (its a part of the curriculum, but most of it is aimed at real management issues). The program is very high ranked (as you might have found out, the ranking is a very arbitrary thing and every ranking body has a diffrent opininon). Costs are around 550K for 1.5 years and the class rooms are located in the HK Convention Center (very convenient and execellent infrastructure). Have a look at it, its definity worth it.
Are you looking for an EMBA or a MBA course? This are two different pair of shoes. The HKUST-Kellogg course ranks 3rd in the FT for the EMBA.

HK vs US

During my MBA at HKUST, I had an exchange semester with a top ranked business school in US..so my take on this is..

US- aggressive batch mates, excellent career guidance by school, industry interactive case studies, high impetus on networking skills, non-academic approach to teaching

HK- guess the toned down interaction levels are mostly cultural, placement cell’s overall approach, compared to US, not very comprehensive..unless things have changed drastically in the last couple of years..…

UST is still one of the best if not the best b-school in Asia..and the exchange does give you an opportunity to see both sides….at HK costs that too

to the MBAs out there. Have you found that recruiters are interested in discussing your MBA in detail or is it more of a tick the box exercise i.e if you have an MBA from a decent institution then that is as far as the discussions go?

ya I mean I don't think one can easily get in without enough experience/qualification... I'm definitely too fresh for that

I am really considering the HKUST program also, so I appreciate all of these comments.

I am curious about the discrepancy between the EMBA rankings and the full-time program. I'm not even sure how it is possible for one half of the school to rank that high and the other half not appear on most rankings. That might be a very ignorant question...

I found HKUST via the FT rankings if I remember right.

Don't get too uptight about the rankings I guess. As long as u've done your research about the respective MBA program and find it beneficial; I think a ranking of 2 and 9 is comparable and both considered top notch. hence it'll all depends on you, i'm yet to get into one... currently just a rough plan
