EDIT: Sorry, didn't realize you're talking about the Japan-version prices (I'm not sure why you brought those prices up in this thread, although I haven't read all of it) Last edited by lowlight; 11-02-2007 at 12:56 PM. |

Those are actually accurate as far as "MSRP" goes. But as you know in Hong Kong, MSRP and actual price depends on demand and availability. 20GB's are all but sold out now, although there are still some 60GB's floating around. You won't likely be able to get it for MSRP without buying extra games and accessories. Buying a console itself means the most markup. Expect to pay over $4000 for a standalone 60GB unit. Japan models are selling for a lot less; below the HK version's MSRP. Looking at around $3800 for a 60GB and $3500 for the 20GB. Since HK and Japan (and USA! w00t!) are in the same Blu-Ray region, it may not be a bad idea to buy a Japanese PS3. The power supplies are multi-voltage, despite what it says on the back of the console, so you don't even need a step-down converter. However there is the issue of having no warranty, which may be especially important due to an abnormal number of reports of consoles dying on people... |

| Yup, the extra $200 is worth it, IMO. You get a warranty, and although I've heard all PS3's have dual voltage power supplies, I wouldn't feel too good about plugging one in for the first time Besides, you can have several accounts at Playstation.com - one for HK region, one for Japan, and one for USA |

| For the HK PS3, the warranty is valid in HK only. If you were buying one and exporting it, you'd still have to bring it back to HK to get it fixed, should anything go wrong with it. I've read about the blu-ray playback issues with update 1.50, but it's apparently been fixed with update 1.51. I didn't experience any problems playing back BD at all. The DVD playback function might not mean much, as practically everyone has a DVD player these days. But, there's a rumour that with a future firmware update, the PS3 will be able to upscale DVDs for a clearer picture on LCD/Plasmas. If that's so, it'll make sense to buy a PS3 for the region you have most DVDs in/watch the most. khajasi: 1) I'm not sure if you can play PAL games on an NTSC machine. Having looked around the forums, I don't think any knows, as there aren't any PAL games yet, until the European launch. BUT, if DVDs are anything to go by, then, I'm thinking not. I've tried to play PAL region free discs (concert DVDs) on my HK PS3, and it wouldn't do it. 2) You shouldn't have any problems connecting to the UK PSN. As lowlight says, you can set up different accounts to connect to different PSN. The advantage? Each Sony Online Store has slightly different content for you to download. Trailers, demos, game add-ons. The only drawback is, you have to use a credit card native to that Online Store if you wanna buy games. 3) Depends. If you're worried about dodgey traders, and you want to buy a HK machine, stick to Fortress/Broadway/Sony Style Shop. If you're looking for Japanese one, then best get someone to go with you. Either way, you won't regret getting a PS3, they're GRR-EAT |

| Guys I'm in HK between the 11th and 18th of March. I want to pick up a 20gb HK PS3 as they are right in my price range. Does anyone know where I can pick up a 20gb PS3, with no extras, for ~HK$3180? Sony Style has them advertised, I wonder if it would be possible to reserve one over the phone? Does anyone know if that's possible? Maybe it's a lot to ask, but as I don't speak Cantonese, could anyone do that for me? |

| This is HK not some outpost in deepest darkest China, they'll speak English so don't worry. Oh and to get it at that price you need to purchase at least one game Last edited by jimbo; 25-02-2007 at 05:20 PM. |

| Don't even Sony Style sell it unbundled? A couple of people have told me that the 20gb is scarce in HK - now, I don't know if this means that it's absolutely impossible to find, or that if you do a little shopping around in the right places you can find it - but it's the only one I can afford so I want to have a plan before I go. I don't care whether it's HK or Japanese tbh, I just want the cheapest one possible - I could probably afford a single game with it, but not much more. I'll call up Sony Style in a day or two and see if I can reserve one then |
