If you see ones listed as lower than the HK price, it'll more likely be an import. Now, the only difference in where you buy it, depends on what packages the various retailers are offering. Or, in short, how many games and accessories, they MAKE you buy with the system. For example, with Sony Style you have to buy 2 games with your console. Fortress, you have to buy 3 games, and an extra controller.

The HK version shares the same BD region as USA, and Japan ie Region A. The DVD region is set for HK, Region 3. At the moment, not all BD movies are region locked, despite saying so on the box. But I would imagine they'll start locking them pretty soon on future releases. However, the DVD region lock is in place, as I've tried with Region 1 and 2 discs. Also, it is an NTSC system only, and will not play PAL discs, even if they are region free or even Region 3. The games are not region locked either at the moment. So you can buy and play US/Japanese games with no problems. There is talk that sometime in the future, publishers may decide to region lock the games. The feature is available, but I guess so far no one has implemented it yet. *Some of what I say could change with a firmware upgrade.*

If you're looking for a PS3 with a warranty, I'd get a HK version. I don't think Sony do international warranties. Plus also, if you're likely to watch DVDs on your PS3, then an imported PS3 won't be much use. True, you can watch them on your existing DVD player, but with a future firmware upgrade, the PS3 will be able to upscale your DVD for a clearer picture on your LCD/Plasma.

Hope this helps! But feel free to ask me if you have more PS3 questions. BTW, it's ******* amazing!!
Great info, thanks

Aha I see, so because they have these properties that means ONLY games for kids are published? Spyro's a PS game by the way.

Look at Zelda, Far Cry, Red Steel,... kid's games?

BTW ever actually played any Mario kart? Best. Racegame. ever.

And spyro is available on the ds too. The vast majority of nintendo games are aimed at kids and girls etc, thats the point I'm trying to make.

Yes of course I've played mario kart, too cutesy for me and not a patch on gran turismo etc

And I still prefer the playability of goldeneye over say mariokart etc.

Take the MTR to Sham Shui Po (Tsuen Wan Line), look for Golden Centre exit, I think its D2. Turn left down Fuk Wa St and it should be on the right. If in doubt just ask, Im sure someone will help you. About the PS3 Im not sure........sorry.

Dan.

I'll be flying to HK next week from London and I'm planning to get a PS3 at bargain prices (compared to the UK!). Before that, I have some queries that I hope you guys can help me with:

1. I understand that the PS3 games are region-free so does that mean that I can play PAL games in the NTSC system? Or is it only region-free in the sense that I can play NTSC/J and /US only?

2. I'll be bringing the PS3 back to the UK. Will I have issues with the Network functions? I'm looking to connecting it to the Sony Europe Network.

3. Finally, where are the best shops in HK to get it? I hate retailers who give you a super attractive price upfront before slapping with hidden extras that I'm made to buy.

Thank you all!!
