I don't think they're freely available yet.

I asked in an official stockist in SSP, and was told there that was a 10 day waiting period after putting down a deposit. I'm not sure if it's really a 10 day wait, or a "No, sorry, they still haven't arrived yet" on days 11-90!!!

I've asked at a couple of branches of Fortress/Broadway with PS3 booths, and the staff don't know when they'll get stock.

i just got mine. it's a few days wait. 5 - 10 days, mine was like the 5th day i think?? You just put down a deposit and they pretty much guarantee you a ps3 before 10 days.

however, mine was supposed to come with the blu-ray remote but they didn't have it and i got an extra sixaxis instead.

and Yabadaba, i have games from the package that I don't want. Ridge racer 7, Gundam I haven't played yet but i don't think I want it anyway, Genji is actually quite cool so I'm unsure about that. Resistance is ok but I don't like shoot em ups but my friends do. So if you really want a particular game out of those, i'll be happy to sell them to u for cheap!

I was in SSP on Wednesday and 99% of the shops are selling them for $4,900. There is one shop that is selling at $3,780 but you have to wait until Saturday.

I went to Sony in CB on Monday (18Dec06) and the staff helped me reserve online. I then received a SMS on Wednesday asking me to call Sony to confirm if I wanted one. I couldn't decide and when I called today (Thursday) I was told all stock are gone!!!

Only the following packages are available and looks like even the next batch for 28 Dec and 2 Jan are sold out.
http://www.sonystyle.com.hk/ss/campa.../ps3_offer.jsp

You can't even reserve online on Sony website anymore.

OK, so I got a call from Sony this morning telling me that the PS3 is now available from Sony shop. I picked up one 20 minutes ago. Stocks are limited so if you want one, it's best to call them first to ask them hold one for you.

The official stockist in 188 also has ready stock. I think this is the last batch before X'mas. Next batch would be 28 Dec

Yes, it's the HK model. There are two packages for the 60GB model. Both packages come with 3 games and extra wireless controller. Package 1 has Ridge Racer 7, Armored Core 4 and Resistance: Fall of Man for $5,304 and Package 2 has Ridge Racer 7, Mobile Suit Gundam: Targeting Sight and Resistance: Fall of Man for $5,324.

The difference is whether you want AC4 or MSG. I chose Package 2 as AC4 is in Japanese only.

Also, HDMI cables are $350 for 2 metres and $250 for 1 metre. PS2 memory card adaptor sells for $98

At first thought I would say expensive but then I know people willing to spend that on a mobile phone/pda so maybe it is reasonable. I'm still tempted by the Wii though.

Well, I justify the decision based on your argument as well and also the fact that the PS3 is like a computer. You can connect it to broadband and surf the net. I also like the fact that it provides standard USB ports, standard HDMI port and support for standard HDD (you can self upgrade the HDD with a standard 2.5" SATA HDD), ability to plug in a keyboard and mouse and support for Memory Stick, SD Card and Compact Flash cards. That's a lot of features and will help extend the product life.

On the Wii, I heard that the strap for the controller was to skinny and was prone to breaking. This is dangerous as it can fly out of your hand and cause injuries or damage your TV if it hits it. Seems that the straps have now been widened to counter this.

Wii is cheaper and the games seem to be catered more for younger audiences.
