Locked out

Yesterday what I always feared I would do happened, left my keys in the flat and locked myself out. However, it only took me 5 seconds with the first piece of card I could find in my pocket to flip the lock. Very lucky and saved me a few hundred dollars for a locksmith. Very worrying too, so now its the security lock as well when I go out and the chain on the door at night. Just a warning if you are relying on a single lock to keep burglars out of your flat.

I would get it replaced or atleast add a lock that uses a dead bolt.

Glad you managed to get back in Hullexile. Good job the card worked or it would have been a long climb up the building and in via the balcony! It could have been worse - you could have been locked out naked with no card!

Talking of which, I’ll have to think about increasing my security too to stop people getting in. I had to bribe a Security guard 3 weeks ago in order not to report a highly embarrassing incident in the early hours which had all the people on my floor coming out to see what the commotion was including one lady from mainland China who was hysterical. I have now left the premises but the security guards were smirking for days afterwards no doubt happy with their payoff. I have now recovered from the trauma but it has left its scars.

Sounds like a story waiting to be told .. not sure if it will pass our "PG rating" requirements though .

Tell, tell, now we all want to know!

I have a copy of my home keys in my office. If I ever lose the key (during office hours) I can go to my office to get the spare.

An alternative (but expensive) option is to get a lock with a keypad on it. If you really want to go all out, you could get a fingerprint sensor We make do with a Medeco lock on a solid door.
