No Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), please

Now that I've moved to Hong Kong and I eat at a "cha cha tang" pretty much once a day, I've started to wonder if all the MSG is having an effect on my body.

In Vancouver, you could ask the chinese restaurants to not add MSG (granted, there is probably MSG in many of the ingredients and sauces) but at least you could minimize it. If I do this here, will the waiters give me a funny look or will they even know what I mean?

They will either ignore you or tell you to go elsewhere. Some better known cha chaan tengs reputedly don't add MSG. My mind's a blank right now but when I get that light to spark I'll post back.

I always put that down to the wine

Here's to MSG, I think it brings out the flavour of some food and I use it occasionally in my cooking. And I know its bad for you, but then I smoke as well so I have no hope anyway.

Hahaha...nice way to put it...if you're going to go, you're going to go....no point trying to stop it! I'm fine with MSG, but just can't stand the thirst that comes with it

More effects than that...heart beat a little faster at times, thirst, headaches and not sure what else....

Oman Mercenary has pissed of a few people
Chinese wife swears by "Coca Cola" - I just swear @ MSG

After 30 years here - I still get "attacked" by blasted MSG - evening meal laced with the damned stuff at a Chinese restaurant - like Wedding Banquets - causes me to "burn up" right thro the night & a raging thirst too.

My Chinese wife reckons that quaffing "Coca Cola" somewhat ameliorates the symptoms - me, I don't know - I dislike both Pepsi & Coke drinks, and having tried Coke, I don't really find that I'm better for it.

The only way to be better - is to avoid eating out in Chinese restaurants - and even find that western style meals are sometimes suspect too.

Best bet ? Eat at home!
