I rode the Star Ferry today as I usual do to save some cash. It was packed with people taking lots of pictures. What exactly is going on?

I am not in HK that much as I am now usually in Shenzhen so I am guessing I missed some change?

At midnight tonight, the Star Ferry Pier in Central will close, and the service will move to the new Pier at the end of the existing Island Ferry terminal. The existing pier is only about 50 years old, but it's - rightly - considered an iconic building and site, and people want both to have one more trip in and/or out of there to remember, and to document the old pier.

I've got some crappy cameraphone shots and very slightly more complete thoughts on my blog - yeah, it's a plug

Thanks. The govt officials always work very fast in doing anything that mainly benefit themselves. They said that they would like to redevelop the area I leave but they did nothing in 20 years!!

A number of posh-ish restaurants are scheduled to open there.
