No visa required. Unless it was a fairly serious drug conviction or something involving terrorism, you should be fine.

You don't have to make any declaration on entry to HK and you don't need a visa with a UK passport. That being so, unless you are also on any wanted lists, then you shouldn't have a problem.

But - if your skin-tone is not whiter than white - you should be prepared for some questioning. It quite frequently happens to Filipinas, Nepalis and other South Asians & their skin ain't that dark.

Hong Kong Immigration has the right to bounce you back from whence you came.

I would also caution you against looking to find employment here - you'll need a work permit these days *&* a very good reason for any company to require YOU rather than a local.

If you are just coming here for a holiday - welcome to having to breathe our unwanted imports of Commie Smog infesting every nook & cranny - mixed, of course, with the locally generated stuff.

Just don't come here at Chinese New Year if you want to do any shopping - some shops close for a WEEK !

And avoid the [extended] Summer months - unless you like to walk around outdoors in a virtual sauna.

Still want to come? <Grin>. HK does have many attractions.

Well I am very glad to have left UK half a long lifetime ago!!

I've stood in customs Q's in HK and not once have I seen anyone with dark skin being questioned anymore than locals and whiteys. What is the point in perpetuating the racist 'us and them' discussion?

As does any immigration anywhere in the world.

And even with other passports the risk of questioning is somewhat over-stressed I feel - my SO, who is Filipina, comes in and out of HK several times a year and has never once been questioned by Immigration. And certainly I don't know anyone holding a British passport (including several of non-European ethnicity) who has ever been questioned.

I have seen HK customs pull more white people than any other - primarily it has been younger casually dressed people coming off flights from Thailand or Bali.
