Yogurt maker

Where can I buy a yogurt maker? I have seen them in City Super and I imagine those are the most expensive in HK.

Why wa$te ca$h? I make yogurt very easily with "normal" milk warmed up a bit & added powdered milk to thicken it up a little - and add some dessert spoonsful of "commercial" yogurt [making sure that the milk mixture is NOT too hot] and pouring the resultant
conc0ction into a glass thermos for 12 or more hours.

"Tip 1" - first pour the milk into the container and leave several inches "free" - so that you don't end up trying to "get a Quart into a Pint Pot".

I've use this method very successfully for 40+ years - ever since my Mother burned the power cable for my expensive "Yogurt Maker" on a gas ring - dead careless then - dead now.

"Tip 2" - I've found that "Yeo Valley" is a "good" starter for home-made Yogurt.

"Tip 3" - a mechanical whisk is very helpful to mix the additional milk powder with the milk - or one does get some lumps!

Right ! Now go away and create. <Grin>.

Rather a harsh penalty for burning a yogurt maker.

Huh ! It isn't as if I had said that my long dead Mother was "Burning in Hell" 'cos she was careless by burning my Yogurt maker's power cable !

It was meant to be taken as an amusing "aside" / "Stage Whisper"... to drive home the point that a Thermos pot was perfectly adequate for producing yogurt at home.

Now, what I'd **REALLY** like to try is fermented Mares' milk. <grin>.

All you need is a good candy thermometer, as the milk needs to be just under 55C or the yogurt starter will not multiply.
If the milk cools to under 37C again the yogurt starter will not do its thing.

You also need to keep the yogurt in this 'hot zone' for at least 3 hours. An oven or microwave which has just been switch off will do nicely. In the current climate you can easily keep the yogurt in the oven overnight and refrigerate in the morning.
if you need more.....
