Moving from Sai Kung to Tai Po

I'm going to move from Sai Kung to Tai Po. I wonder how I can find cheap moving companies to move the furnatures? What are the reasonable prices? Also, where can I buy those paper boxes to put my stuff in? Thanks.

hi,

if you don't have a lot of things to move and a van is sufficient, there are many local companies that could do it for less than $500 from sai kung to tai po. the only problem is, you would need someone who can speak cantonese. those hundreds of vans you see on the road with telephone numbers on the back and sides are for that very use.
if you can find a friend or colleague to help you, you can save a lot of money.
you can get cardboard boxes from ikea. they are expensive but can be folded and used again for next time.

thanks for the information. i have beds and fridge, so i think i need to use a truck. will it cost more than 1K?

i think the boxes from Ikea are small boxes. are there big ones?

You can also get used cardboard boxes from Parknshop or Wellcome - if you just go in and ask. It's a bit hit and miss with the sizes sometimes though...

hmm...that would be a little bit harder if you need a truck and might have to use some of the moving companies that are mentioned elsewhere in the forum. usually these moving companies will bring boxes and pack the items for you which is why it may be considered rather pricey for some. if you pick up a free edition of hk magazine, they list quite a few moving companies that handle enquiries in english. my guesstimate for a flat would be 1.5k.
if you have cantonese speaking friends, they should be able to find one of those 'truck for rent' companies but you would need to do all the lifting yourself.
