HI Everyone,

I am going to HK in April. Would anyone be able to recommend a specific street or district or store where I can find (cheap) brocade fabrics by the yard? Specifically, I am looking to sew my own wedding items-pillows, program covers, etc. And possibly have a cheongsam-wedding dress made as well. My Cantonese is lacking so I'd like to be prepared with addresses and locations beforehand.

Not sure how cheap it is but you can try Western Market. If you decide to go to Shenzen, there is a fabric market in the Lowu Shopping section. We bought Chinese brocade for a friend's wedding. She made waist coats and bow ties for the groom and his friends. Fabric was cheap, $20-30HKD a meter. I don't think it was silk though. But you can't tell.

Hi, My name is Tessa and I am living in HK. The BEST place to buy fabric is in a huge fabric district called SHAM SHUI PO! I was just there yesterday having to choose samples for a few friends. If you want, I would be glad to mail you some samples. All you have to do is: 1) give me the color(s) of your choice, 2) what type of pattern you are looking for , 3) give me the USD you are looking for to pay for fabric and they usually start 3-5 yards for fabric and 4) email me your address and all of the above information to my email address at: china8asset@yahoo.com

I will mail you the samples at my expense. No worries.

Hi there! I am arriving in hk next week with a girlfriend. We would love to find some dressy fabrics to take to shenzhen with us to have some outfits made. Some satin silks, linens etc etc. We have not got much time (one full day) so we need to be very selective. Could you please give us as much information on where we can find beautiful fabrics. thanks
