Not necessarily true. Sometimes they kill dogs in a way designed to cause the most fear and suffering. I know of no livestock killed in this fashion. There was an incident in Thailand where a group of locals stole my acquaintance's dog (black being the preferred color) for a meal. They surrounded the dog and repeatedly hit it with sticks until it eventually died. The reason: some believe that fear in the dog (and the resulting adrenalin rush) makes the meat taste better.

My acquaintance could hear the crying and whining somewhere in the neighborhood but could not find her dog in time. Truly abhorrent behavior.

This is a special administrative region, which means no dog or cat eating. In case you haven't noticed, dog is man's best friend. A lot of people seriously love dogs and find the eating of dogs abhorrent. All meat consumption involves cruelty towards the animal, but consumption of dog meat is particularly disturbing and repulsive to a good number of people. This is a disgusting thread to have started on a forum about living in HK. It is regrettable that we have people in our midst who a) crave dog meat and b) are so ignorant as to think it might be available in Hong Kong.

well, its a matter of where one draws the line.
to a vegetarian that refuse to eat any meat because its the killing of a living animal, whether meat of dog, cow, pig, chicken are all cruel.

a person eat for food. as long as whatever is eaten is not in exaggeration (i.e. for the purpose of survivor), then i don't see why one animal is protected over others...

in nature, all animals are prey and predator, along the food chain.

You yourself are a bit out of line. It is one thing that you may not like it and find it gross. I would not eat dog meat myself either I don't think. However I can respect the poster because different people like different things. Some people eat based on taste, some on culture, some other things. In many parts of India a cow is sacred. Someone from India may feel just as disgusted someone will eat a cow as westerners may about a dog being eaten. So before you attack the poster maybe try to understand that humans have a right to eat what they would like, and if it against your belief we must understand some other people believe in it. That doesn't mean accepting it, but you should respect peoples wishes to talk about it.

I also don't believe in eating rat and cockroaches etc, but do you see me flipping out?

A lot of people love rabbits and find the eating of rabbits abhorrent. A lot of people love sheep and find the eating of sheep abhorrent. A lot of people love animals and find the eating of animals abhorrent. A lot of people love meat but can't afford it.

Just asking a question. Dog meat is eaten in Korea, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, so why not Hong Kong???
