Starbucks

I don't like too much their espresso. Too bitter and not lasting aftertaste. But after this Oxfam's article I'm just going to boycott them.

from the Oxfam people themselves:

Deliberately setting out to look for something to boycott is a fairly bad idea. Don't feel that, as a clued-up campaigner, you have to be boycotting something. What you should do is take a look at the things that don't get reported in the mainstream press. If a company's behaviour shocks you, consider whether your money would be better spent elsewhere.

One thing you should never do is boycott a company simply because somebody else tells you to. Take their arguments on board, do your own research and come to your own conclusions. The only person who can decide how you live is you!

'nattering on?' how insulting. oxfam seems like a reliable source of info. informing readers of the issue is a little more interesting than 'nattering on' about your fascinating 2004 merlot. please enlighten us with your wisdom...

i always felt that boycotting doesnt really help. if u dont drink starbucks, some one else will. look at the sheer size of the chain.
what we need to do is educate others. there are so many ppl who are ignorant of unfair trade
i once talked to this girl who thought that the protests during WTO were useless. she felt that big corporations DESERVED the money they make because they invested in MARKETING. i was like WTF ARE U TALKING ABOUT??? some ppl have no idea what big corporations will do with their money, and will do, because they have no ethics whatsoever.
i am totally against corporations like that, call me a lefty

u guys should checkout adbusters.org. very informative, but i think they're a little too extreme. oxfam is a very very reliable info source.

I haven't heard of any Lagaria Merlot from Sicily. From a quick search the wine you have looks from Veneto. The term Lagaria should come from a wine of the region between Basilicata and Calabria dating IV and III century B.C., probably sweet. Ancient Romans used to mix wines with water, spices and honey.

The 'nattering on' I was referring to was myself and Mr B; and only because of the lateness of the hour.

In any case Oxfam could hardly natter on this thread; they were only being quoted.

Alas no enlightenment on the merlot, as again due to the lateness of the hour just had a quick sniff and deemed it quite drinkable.

Awaiting further enlightenment from experienced quaffers.

Read the post. And your delightfully inappropriate remark. Don't agree or disagree with Oxfam. Prefer to respect people who put information in a forum. Public forums are better suited for open discussion than rude insults.
