| | | Bus Fare Question I hope this doesn't sound too daft, but I haven't travelled by bus here much. Are you supposed to scan your octopus card when you get off as well? Also, if you do not have a card and are paying with coins, how do you know how much to give. if the fare posted is for the entire journey, how much do you pay if you are only going 'halfway'? how much for kids?
i'm checking the city bus site, but if anyone knows off hand the best bus route to take from Repulse Bay to Aberdeen (near the Marina Club) I'd really appreciate it! i then need to take another bus on to Central.

1. No, you dont need to scan your card when you get off the bus.
2. The bus fare is written there. Please give exact coins, drivers wont give you change.
3. even if you are going only half way, still you have to pay full fare.
4. for kids, twelve yrs or below, not sure though....the fare is half.
Sorry, cant help for the other questions.

| | | there are some services that will give u some refund if u alight halfway. esp those that goes to the far far area e.g. south of the island... they prob do it to satisfy local's need of a direct transport but extended the journey to cover more area so if u alight early u get a refund | |

| | | Bus Fares I have been in HK almost 10 years, I did not know you could get a refund on some bus journeys by scanning O Card upon exit, actually noticed some people doing exactly that after reading this post, I certainly have not seen any notices in the buses informing passengers of this, I suppose they don't want to advertise this as it would lead to less profits | |

| | | Quite a mess! Bet it's in bus cos' interest to be less than transparent. There used to be prominent notices in early Octopus conversion days, but not any longer. I know City Bus 6 and 15 let you scan for refund upon exit on the leg from Central to Stanley and Peak respectively, but NW's 66 on route similar to 6 does not.
In early Octopus days in buses used to be dead certain no chance of rebate in buses with exit doors in the middle, because no scan device on the way out, but later #15 went and turned this on its head (you actually walk to the front entrance, do it, and driver opens front door for you to exit - easily doable at non-peak times when I usually end up travelling, but at rush hour must be like swimming upstream).
Another way to find out - ask the driver, or if language is a problem, on the way out use sign language with the driver, conspicuously waving Octopus in direction of device. If the driver's reaction suggests it's not exactly a great idea, it means no rebate, skip.

| | | Worse case is you get charged twice!
I got the No. 15 recently and noticed some passengers waving their cards prior to getting off and I was thinking maybe they forgot to do it when they got on. Now all is clear. Need to inquire more.

| | | There are 2 buses from Repulse Bay to Aberdeen, the 73 and 973.
They don't go to the Marina Club, but thru the main Aberdeen Praya Rd. | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 11:23 AM.
