Talking Mobile Phone Contracts

I've got a question that has probably been asked a million times...But sorry, need to ask it again. So here it goes.

I'm looking to sign up with a mobile phone company. I'm on prepaid currently, and it's expensive. I've got some requirements.

1) IDD calls
2) International sms
3) local sms

I don't call local very much as I guess as I don't have that many friends yet...I call IDD more. I call Singapore, China, USA and Japan.

So what are your suggestions?

Thanks!

The IDD calls should be completely separate from all the rest - you can buy standalone IDD service that you can use from any phone. I think your husband might be able to advise on this .

For mobile phone service then pretty much any of the providers will do you a package for well under HK$100 per month, and there isn't much to choose between the SMS pricing unless there is one person in HK who you SMS a lot, in which case you should probably be on the same network since itra-network SMS is normally free.

So there isn't like a contract that offers cheap IDD rates? And I'll check with hubby on the standalone IDD service. Thanks

Peoples are offering 20 minutes of IDD free for the first six months via their 1597 service - though this is probably not enough for you. They also have plans as low as 35/month to which you need to add the tunnel fee. No binding contract to sign.

Generally not as cheap as the rates offered by the standalone IDD services. With the further advantage that the standalone IDD services can be registered to any phone and sometimes have a "calling card" option enabling you to use them from someone else's phone just by entering a PIN.

Can you recommend any of these standalone IDD services? I'm looking for something like this - I'm looking for a service that will invoice me separately for IDD not have a monthly contract - pay for usage only.

Sunniefaith, I'm in the same situation as you and I have prepaid SIM with People for HKD0.25/min airtime fee and no additional charges for calling about 30 countries.
Since I call a lot China and Italy and seldom local for me it's just the best option up to now. It's almost as cheap as my Italian voip service that charges me Eur0.02/min for calls to Italy.

Give People prepaid card a try.

I'm with people's prepaid now..I think on an average, I used about $200 a month on prepaid. I'm looking to reduce this. So I'm trying to figure out if I'll be able to reduce the amount if I go on a contract.

I use 1507 mainly for my IDD calls to landline numbers in the UK and Australia.
