| | | Applying Dependent visa... Dear all,
As I have low chance to get a working visa, I would go for a dependent visa now... since I have been together with my boyfriend who is a native HKer for around 4 years.
Is there any one here has experience in applying a dependent visa? Nomally how long will that take for the process? And should I apply through a immigration agent or just apply by myself? Since I am not in HK currently, will that be more informative and quicke by using a immigration agent?
Thank you very much and have a nice weekend... Cheers!

| | | You need to be married to him to be able to get a dependent visa. Hubby got his dependent's visa in less than 2 weeks. We have been married for 4 yrs, not sure if that made a diff. | |

| | | As Sunniefaith says - if you're not married you can't get a dependent visa. | |

| | | Thanks sunniefaith and PDLM for your information,
My boyfriend and I have been together for around 4 years time, we enjoy the de facto relation very much, but since I need to work in HK, and then we decided to get married in Thailand Next week.
we have everything available but the marriage certificate ( and we will obtain it by the end of October ), such as rental agreement from Australia, photos taken all around the Asia-Pacific regions, and emails, even my phone bill in Hk is under his name...
But still not sure whether I should apply by myself or through a immigration agent... any suggestions?
Thanks and Regards,
Jennifer | |

| | | My wife got her dependant visa in no time (3 days to be exact) and all we had to attach was the marriage certificate. They did not ask any questions although we were "just married".
We applied for both my working visa and her dependant visa ourselves and I don't think an agent will be an advantage.
Just guessing here, but they might ask more questions if you marry as a foreigner into HK.

| | | Don't bother with getting an agent. Just DIY, as long as you got all the papers and stuff to prove your relationship, it'll be fine. But not sure if they'll question why you're getting married in Thailand instead of Australia or HK. Immigration people sometimes pick on such things. | |

| | Thanks all, for all your possitive information
The reason we are not getting married in HK or Australia is, in HK the registration may take around 3 months time, and in Australia it takes one month and one day... I need to start my job in November, so have no time to wait, the only reason we get married in Thailand would be the quicker service.
I understand the immigration may question me this question, not sure how should I overcome the disadvantages... but our relation is a real relation being in de facto... would anyone here may give me some advices on that point?
And I may decide not using an immigration agent, since it may cause unnecessary delay and questions from immigration... and also DIY may save HK$4000 for me
Thanks everyone for your help on my case... thank you very much!
Best Regards,

Jennifer | Jennifer, HK unfortunately doesn't follow the European/Aussie/Kiwi standards on de facto. You are either married or not. I wouldn't even start arguing that point.
Your best bet is to provide the marriage certificate and then if questioned on "marriage of convinience", show evidence that the relationship is genuine. You may not be questioned at all.
HK systems are pretty straight forward and in general, they are not out to get you. Agents are useless, providing all the documents asked for is the best way..

You must get married within 3 months of your notification being approved. If you chose one of the busier registration offices of course you may have to wait a while but you can pick another and have it all sorted much quicker!

| | | Dear all,
I am going to get married next Monday with my boyfriend... and in regards to the application for dependent visa, should I submit the original documents, such as marriage certificate, my boyfriend's employment letter... or just copies would be fine?
Thank you very much... and Cheers!
