Angry Faulty ATM card

ok, i have a few hundreds left so i decided to get some more money. went to the cash machine, and alas! my card is not working! im getting the 'faulty card' error message. again.

this is my 3rd faulty card from hsbc. the first time, i thought it was just being unlucky. then came the 2nd card. i had only used my 2nd card once. yep, just to check it's working initially. after that, it's gone. i thought it has something to do with my wallet. so when my 3rd card arrives, i didn't put it in my wallet at all. just hid it somewhere safe in my room....and now...

so i think it has something to do with the card itself.
anybody else with the same problem?

Does this always occur at the same ATM? If so you should test the card at a different ATM and if it works there you need to tell HSBC that the specific ATM needs some attention.

Unless the magnetic stripe is damaged it could be the machine you are using. Inserted at wrong angle on a fussy machine?

Once it gets to three cards and multiple machines, then it does seem that it must be something specific to your card or something that happens to it. This isn't a widespread problem - I have never had an HSBC card wear out on me (the previous generation of Citibank credit cards on the other hand wore out very quickly, but that was obvious from the physical deterioration).

Maybe you just have an extremely magnetic personality?

Used to happen a lot with SCB credit cards (had to replace 3 or 4 of them) once we went through the parking lot at Cyberport -- while using the Octopus card. Were able to duplicate this under fairly controlled circumstances.
