Hehe, I've heard of so many people doing this. Everyone wants the new SmartID, but some people have years to come. The easiest way, if you can't wait is to purposely bend, scratch and damage your ID card until it looks awful, or to just say someone stole it or lost it. No police report required, and you get your SmartID card after you pay HK$395 and 2 weeks.
