Well step 1 is too find a woman to marry - that's either the hard / and or easy part out of the way. Step 2 is to give notice of marriage - but luckily the immigration dept do a great job at explaining that here http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/bdmreg_4.htm Step 3 is your problem!!

For the marraige itself all you would need is your passport and birth cert if I remember rightly. Financials don't come into it for the marriage itself. For applying for a dependant visa afterwards you may have to supply financial details along with the normal paperwork involved in obtaining said piece if sticky paper.

What Jay says is right. To get married you basically need to show up with identification and a witness or two. The financials and other stuff is demanded by the immigration department, to ensure that you did not get married just for the purpose of the visa (i.e. you had a relationship of some sort that lead to the marraige) and to ensure that if you're a dependant, your spouse can support you i.e. you'll not become a burden on the fragile Hong Kong economy.

Marriage Go to the government building in Pacific Place ( to the left as you walk in the shopping centre) i think its floor 3 ? Births, deaths & marriage registry....get there early !! Take your passports & birth certificates with you, then they issue you a number and a time to return to the offices later. ( like i said be early cos they only issue so many per day). wait to be called, then they ask a few questions, nothing serious, you pay them some money ( HKD 750 ). If everything is ok they make you swear an oath ! Then they get a book out and you pick a time and day and place to get married. ( cotton tree drive marriage registry is nice in HK Park). By law it has to be after 15 days of applying because they put you on a notice board so that anybody who thinks you should not get married has 15 days to appeal. They give you a piece of paper, you turn up, get married, job done!! No financial questions, no questions about nationality, quite easy really. hope this helps..

Hi Rover, From what i understand, if you are married and your girlfriend has a work visa then you can get a visa for the same length of time as a spouse and so can dependants. I'm not in HK yet, plan to be in Feb 2007, but thats the route i'm going down. I actually have a meeting today with InvestHK, to find out about setting up business, visa's, taxation etc. Will let you know any good info i get.
