So the gas and water both work but the water is not getting hot. In my apartment there are switches in the hallway that have to be on for the hot water to be on and I have to turn on the water heater in the bathroom. When the switches are on you hear the gas come to life about 5 seconds after turning on the water and the hot water takes anywhere from 5-30 seconds to come through depending on which tap I am using.

I assume yours will be different so why not meet your neighbours by knocking on some doors seeing how theirs work and if they can't help asking to borrow their shower.
Good luck.

Check where you usually switch on your bathroom light. Is there a second switch that has at first no obvious reason to be there? That should be for the gas heater.
I had the same problem (and a few cold showers!) when I first arrived in Asia a couple of years back...

If it has two positions and it rests at position 1 then position 2 must be the ignition. Turn and hold it at position 2 and you should hear a clicking sound. Look into the pilot light window and check to see if you can see a spark. Eventually this should light the pilot light. When it does then release the knob and it should stay lit. Then turn on the hot water tap and it should light up big time.

-there is no window...
-the knob only clicks and stays in 2 positions: 1 dot or 2 dots
-both dots make noises when water is turned on/off
-all my switches are in hall, and I did happen to find a switch that if pressed on/off it makes a bang noise in the kitchen (near the electrical box)
-there is also a switch near the kitchen that is very different then others and has an ON and OFF posted next to it. It also has a light above it when turned on. This seems to make no noises and no difference with any of my switches/electric appliances though...so not sure what its for.
-neighbors are not home, probably enjoying the moon festival
-the one i had at last apartment worked where you need to hold in middle, then wait a few secs, then turn to side to ignite, and then let go for flame to stay. This one does not seem to do this type of method.
-online i can find the info about it, but not a user manual. All i know is its some type of "instantaneous water heater"

-I am still smelly...

Sounds like a tricky case... maybe one these 24/7-on-call handyman could help, but no sure if they do Park Island?
Have you tried asking your security guy downstairs? I have heard in some places they are quite helpful (if you are lucky and they speak basic english...)

That sounds like cold shower is the only option if you want to show up at work on Monday!

why dont you call the management downstairs they must know the flat well. normally, there's a switch for it or and that u have to wait for like 5 mins to get it heated at least, just leave the light on some bathroom's main switch are with the lights if there's no other switch.
if not working for you, boil some hot water put it in bucket and add cold ones.
