Help with Hard Drive

Hi all. I have suffered the dreaded curse of HDD failure. The motor in the drive won't spin up. I was wondering if anyone new of any Data Recovery companies who will do the recovery for a reasonable price. This is a personal drive, with many unbacked-up photo's (I know I know, my own fault), so I am not willing to spend what a corporate would for this service, hence the need for someone to do it at a reasonable rate.
Thanks

Hdd

Hi

Basically, a HDD will have a small mother board attached to it, it ould be this mother board's failiure, so, one option would be to replace the mother board ( but this doesn't guarantee 100% success ), If this method fails, then there could be very little done about your HDD.

By the way, what's your HDD model & brand??

Cheers
Sankar

I don't think its the controlling board, you can hear the motor trying to spin up but not being able to.

The drive is a Hitachi Deskstar, 60GB, Model: IC35L060AVV207-0 (possibly a re-badged IBM as there are IBM chips on the controlling board).

Its still under waranty, but that is not the problem. I know there are companies around (in Australia at least), who are able to retrieve data, I believe they remove the platters and use some sort of magnetic reader, not really sure of the whole procedure, but I am led to believe its something like this. In OZ its quite expensive, I was kinda hoping the same thing was cheaper here in Honkers. Its just a matter of finding who here does it.

No clue how good they are, but worth a try.

They're not going to be any cheaper than Australia.
