HK/NZ Working Holiday Visa Scheme ...

Hello all,

I visited HK and Mainland China over Dec 2003 – Jan 2004. It is an amazing and beautiful place.

My Wife and I would like to come to HK in early 2005 under the New Zealand/Hong Kong Working Holiday Visa Scheme (http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkvisas_10.htm). I have a couple of questions related to the New Zealand/Hong Kong Working Holiday Visa Scheme based on information I have collected so-far in my research into living/working in HK …

Are there any New Zealanders/Australians out there who have experience with this Working Visa Scheme – or anyone in general who may be able to offer some insight into living/working in HK with one of these Visas?

The HK/NZ Working Visa Scheme permits the holder to seek short term employment. I am interested to know what sort of attitudes HK employers take to job hunters with this type of Visa – i.e. how hard is it to find short term employment on one of these Visas (Brief Profile - I am a University Degree qualified Software/Internet Developer with approximately 1 year commercial experience, I am currently learning Mandarin, I am adaptable and I have many additional skills)?

Thanks for your attention, and any insights you may be able to offer.

Bernard.

Hey there

I have this visa. Look at classifiedpost.com and you will see there are never any temp jobs.

Almost 99% of all jobs are permanent but you can change jobs very quickly.

You may do better with an IT background but 1 yr experience is quite low. You can teach English in the many substitute positions.

To be reaistic you may need to teach English. There are couple teaching posts in China.

Dont be too pesimistic but plan and research before you arrive. Also check IT agencies they do have more temp selection.

Er, the previous post was from 2004 so I guess the question is moot now...
