Rental Deposit

Hi,

Although I know it's not strictly legal but is it ok to not pay our last two months rent to the landlord. We are moving out because we are buying a boat and have had problems getting repairs done to the Air con. We had to pay for a repair and took the amount of the rent that month because we had been waiting many weeks and the landlord had done nothing about it. His agent wanted us to pay for half the repair and we said they where crazy and no way would we pay for repairs to be done to his property unless we had broken something.
The agent said that the landlord would then withhold the amount from our deposit.

Is it likely the landlord will take us too court if we withhold the last two months rent to ensure we get back all out deposit. Or will he realize there is no point as the money is ours anyway?

Thanks

You need to double-check your tenancy agreement with regards to who is responsible for the maintenance of the air-conditioners. If it is the landlords then you may want to point this out to him/her or the agent. A call to the citizens easy link for sound advice would be a good idea too.
